At the end of our week-long Containers, Cottages & Cabins course we'll have an opportunity to present the ideas we've been exploring.

I'm excited that this coming January I'll be teaching a week-long Containers, Cottages & Cabins course at Yestermorrow Design-Build School. This course is a reworking of the Less is More course that I took at Yestermorrow in 2010 and have been teaching since 2013. (If there's someone in your life who is design-obsessed and fascinated by small spaces, this course would be an incredible holiday gift!)

Several years ago while pursuing my Sustainable Design-Build Certificate at Yestermorrow, I took the Less is More course, a week-long small space design course. It was the first time I thoroughly designed a tiny house and though I never ended up building that little house I'd still love to see someone do it someday! Mine was the only wee house on wheels that year, but in the past several years as I've been teaching this course the split is usually 50/50 between on-wheels and ground-bound. Now that Yestermorrow is offering both the Tiny House Design-Build course in July and the Tiny House Design-Build Certificate in April/May, which both cater to the on-wheels crowd, we've decided to try something new, which is transforming the Less is More class into a week-long Containers, Cabins, and Cottages class, focusing on simple, creative small solutions that are NOT on wheels.

This course is perfect for anyone interested in creating a backyard cottage, transforming a garage into a little studio, or using a shipping container to create a shop or dwelling. My co-instructor Dave Cain and I have both lived in small spaces and built our own homes and we're excited to help others envision a small space to suit their needs and lifestyle. Come join us!

Here's the course description:
