This past weekend Lee Pera and I taught two workshops in Denver, CO through the Tiny House Collaborative. We teamed up with Culture Garden Market to use their incredible permaculture urban gardening store as our venue. The owner, Carole, is an incredible person with a passion for helping people live sustainably. I wish her store was down the street from our place, so you Denverites are lucky!
The first workshop we did was our Tiny House 101 Workshop which is designed for the tiny house curious crowd and helps walk participants through the big decisions they'll need to make whether they're interested in DIYing their project, general contracting it, or purchasing a completed tiny house. Our participants hailed from as far away as Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, and even Singapore! We had the opportunity to visit with Art at Einstyne Tiny Homes to see two of his shells and a trailer that they've just gotten going. It was great to show these tiny homes under construction in conjunction with our building basics presentations. Art is a wealth of information and we all learned a ton from talking with him. On our way back from the first tour we also swung by Beloved Community Village and it was so cool to see how close they are to having the first residents move in!
The second workshop was our 1/2 day Tiny House Community & Zoning Workshop, which covers building code, zoning code, tiny house types and their accompanying regulations, as well as six models for tiny house community, and the six steps to creating a tiny house community. It was neat to see the connections being made during the brainstorm session as people realized they had similar visions!
